Its about over!

I can not believe that we are heading into week 8. These eight weeks have been the most stressful and busiest I have been since starting school three years ago. All I have to remember is that I am officially done with classes and will start Student teaching in January! I am beyond excited for the next chapter. This class has been great. I have learned many new strategies that I cannot wait to try in my lessons. Thanks everyone for a very enjoyable 8 weeks. Good luck on your future!

Take away week 6

I enjoyed the activity last night about the climate change. Everyone's lesson plans that were presented last night were very good. Today, I presented my lesson plan for my supervisor. I did the writing lesson plan I presented last night in class. The students seemed to really enjoy picking their favorite insect but they struggled a bit in coming up with reasons why.

Take away from week 5

This week I did the activity for finding words with the same root word as portable (port). It was unbelievable the amount of words I found. I also really liked the strategy CSSR. I see myself using this in the future to help my students with unknown words.

Take away from week 4

Learning the three different strategies in week 4's class was very helpful. I can see many teachers including myself using these strategies as a way to keep students more engaged.  My Favorite is the DR-TA. Taking a reading assignment and breaking it up then asking questions to further your students thinking. You can take it a step further and ask more blooms questions.

Take away from last class

I was a big fan with all the activities we participated in in class. My favorite one was the email she sent us and we each were a different person and we had to decide what details were valuable in our line of work. It made me realize that there are many different ways that different students can look at the same text or story. We need to be able to provide diverse strategies to help all students achieve the same goal.

Lesson Plans

I am leaning toward doing my lesson plans as an integrated unit and including many of the different subject areas while incorporating reading and the different strategies lined out for us on page 51.

Take away from Chapter 4

The portion in the chapter where they talked about questioning though disciplinary lenses was very interesting. I loved the charts and how they used Blooms to help you with questions to ask your students to further their thinking capability.  I also never thought about when the text says that beginning readers work on comprehension that they address the same common core standards as high school seniors

Take away form chapters 1-3

I love the idea for frontloading. I believe most teachers do this some way to grab the attention of their students. But hearing and learning about it tonight made it that much more clear on how important it is to have it for your lessons.
